Racist NFL Players ‘Take A Knee,’ So Papa John’s Takes 1 Thing They Love The Most

As the 2017 NFL season continues, the racist professional football players who have been “taking a knee” before games show no sign of rolling back their infuriating protests. So, Papa John’s has decided to take the one thing that these shameless athletes love most, and it’s sure to teach them a much-needed lesson. You’ll love this!

The practice of “taking a knee” was popularized by former San Fransisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who began protesting as the national anthem played during the 2016 NFL season. Kaepernick, who was adopted by a white suburban family, knelt for “The Star-Spangled Banner” because of supposed “police brutality” and “racial inequality” in the United States. Let that sink in for a moment.
If you can’t seem to wrap your head around how, exactly, Colin Kaepernick was ever discriminated against, don’t worry, you’re not alone. His disrespectful demonstration earned him the disdain of NFL owners and advertisers to such a degree that he can no longer get a job playing professional football. He’s been blackballed, and rightfully so.
However, watching Kaepernick run his own career into the ground for the sake of a misguided political agenda has not deterred others from following in his footsteps. To the contrary, as soon as this season’s NFL games began, more and more athletes began to kneel during the anthem as the weeks passed. The protests even spread to other sports before eventually reaching high school teams. Now, even high school cheerleaders are kneeling for the anthem. It is a sad state of affairs, to be sure, and we have Kaepernick to thank.
These shameful demonstrations seemingly reached a fever pitch after President Donald Trump condemned the kneelers during a rally in Alabama in September, saying, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say ‘get that son of a b**** off the field right now – he’s fired!'” Well, yes, Mr. President. We would.
While NFL owners have yet to start firing their players for disrespecting our flag, our country, and those who have served to protect them, we do have some welcome news which serves as karma for these kneelers and their bosses, who have looked the other way. One of the NFL’s biggest advertisers has officially decided to pull their support from the sport. Papa John’s will no longer be spending the company’s ad dollars on NFL games after facing blowback from the public.
“In a stunning move, the NFL just lost out on one of its biggest advertisers when the pizza chain Papa John’s pulled its NFL-related advertisements Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell,” reports sports website The Wildcard. “The reason is extremely telling. Jonathan Maze, senior financial editor at Nation’s Restaurant News, puts the blame solely on the NFL.”
The website adds, “This is no small loss for the NFL, if only looking at the sheer volume of pizza commercials inundating your typical NFL viewing. While small chains and private businesses have been ready to boycott the NFL over the rampant national anthem protests, Papa John’s is the biggest company to take a stance.”
According to ABC News, executives from Papa John’s, the official pizza company of the NFL, expressed disappointment on a conference call Wednesday about the league’s ongoing player protests during the national anthem. In revising sales estimates for the next quarter, Papa John’s president and chief operating officer Steve Ritchie said on the call that the NFL deal was the primary suspect behind the decline and that “we expect it to persist unless a solution is put in place.”
Ritchie also said that research has found that Papa John’s has been the most recognized sponsor associated with the NFL for two years running, which he said means the company’s performance can track with that of the league. “The NFL has hurt us. We are disappointed the NFL and its leadership did not resolve this,” Papa John’s founder and CEO John Schnatter commented. “Leadership starts at the top and this is an example of poor leadership.”
Papa John’s is hitting these overpaid athletes right where it hurts — in the pocketbook. Perhaps as ad dollars continue to be pulled from the NFL, owners will be forced to cut the bloated salaries of these disrespectful kneelers. This is a major win for the American patriots who have been boycotting the NFL and its advertisers in the wake of ongoing anthem protests. Those who believed they could effectively hit the NFL where it hurts in order to force the league to change its standards were right.
